Sept. 8, Concerning Statement Made at CL ext. day

Dear Clear Lake Elementary Parents and Guardians,

I wanted to make you aware of an incident that occurred after school today, September 8, 2023.  This is a separate incident from our earlier communication. A concerning statement was made by a student during p.m. extended day care. The incident will be reviewed, evaluated, and processed through our threat assessment protocol which includes a building administrator, law enforcement, a mental health professional and knowledgeable staff about the student. The parents of the student have been informed and the student will not return to school until a threat assessment is completed.

Please know if any situation involves mention, depiction, or an actual weapon, law enforcement will complete a weapons check of the student and the student’s home.

At the completion of the threat assessment another communication will be sent.  If you have questions, please contact me.

Safety is a top priority. We appreciate the quick reporting and continue to encourage our school community to report school safety concerns in a timely manner to law enforcement and school administration. Parents, please talk to your students and remind them that their words and actions matter and any student who speaks or acts inappropriately will face disciplinary consequences.

Sincerely,
Stephanie Niemi
Principal
