January 2, Welcome Back!

Dear Clear Lake Families,

Happy New Year! I hope you all were able to spend time with family and friends throughout the holiday break. I am excited to welcome our students back to Clear Lake tomorrow, January 3rd.

If you have not had time yet to read the email communications from the district I highly encourage you to do so. It contains information regarding safety measures and procedures as we welcome students back to school this week. The district sent out communication last Wednesday, December 29th and also sent a reminder email yesterday, January 1st. There are some highlights listed below:

  • Elementary students may resume bringing their regular backpacks to school.
  • Every district building will have law enforcement and security firm personnel on site. Please talk with your child about this so they are aware and prepared to see uniformed officers at Clear Lake. Let them know they are there to protect them and help keep them safe.
  • Clear Lake will have a team of trained therapy dogs which will continue throughout the remainder of the school year.
  • Please talk to your child about the seriousness of their words and actions. Inappropriate talk such as threats and/or talks of violence are not acceptable. Our staff will be reinforcing this in their regularly scheduled classroom meetings.
  • We will have additional support personnel from Oakland Schools on site this week to support staff and students in any capacity.

As we approach the heart of these winter months, please make sure you are sending your student to school each day with warm winter gear (coat, hat, gloves, boots, etc.). Students will be going outside each day unless temperatures fall below 10 degrees ("feels like"). As previously communicated, it is recommended that you label your child's items in case any item is misplaced.

Prior to winter break, the Clear Lake Annual Holiday Shop was scheduled for students and was put on hold due to school being cancelled. We want to still provide our students with a shopping experience and are planning an opportunity for them to be able to do so. There are some really fun ideas that are still being explored. Please stay tuned for more details in the next couple of weeks. I appreciate everyone's patience and flexibility as we work through this.

I plan on sending out an updated Clear Lake Connector link in the coming days which will also include an updated school calendar.

Please enjoy the remainder of your weekend!
